5 Factors Affecting The Quality Of Effluent Treatment Plant
In the era of water scarcity and water pollution, it is very important to recycle and reuse water as much as possible. Apart from households, industries play a major role in water usage and polluting water. Every industry should treat water to protect the environment from pollution. Effluent - Waste Water or Water to be treated. A large amount of effluent is generated in many manufacturing industries. Contaminated water cannot be released without removing its impurities. As a result, ETP's are installed which remove toxic and nontoxic impurities. A good quality ETP treats wastewater effectively and reduces pollution. Here are a few main factors listed below that may affect ETP's quality.
What is ETP?
ETP - Effluent Treatment Plant. This is one of the processes designed for treating industrial wastewater for its reuse or safe disposal to the environment. Effluent usually contains organic compounds, pollution, toxic, non-toxic materials, and polymers which may cause environmental hazards. So here ETP helps in treating industry effluent, reduce the usage of freshwater, cut expenditure on water procurement and importantly reduce environmental pollution.
Nature of Effluent
The first and foremost factor affecting the quality of ETP is the nature of effluent. Using eco-friendly chemicals in the industry is very important. Low-quality chemicals result in much low-quality effluents.
The effluent of the worst quality and high toxicity will affect the quality of ETP. This even makes the treatment much harder.
You should consider the nature of effluent which includes color, solid wastes, temperature even odor before designing a plant.
Size Of ETP:
The size of the effluent plant is the next important thing to be considered. The size of ETP should largely depend on the effluents to be treated.
Having a small ETP for treating large effluent will affect the plant’s quality.
Having a large enough Effluent Treatment Plant is necessary so that you get the hydraulic computations right.
Also, the sizes of conveying pipes and effluent channels should be designed based on the estimated inflow of effluents into the plant. An ETP manufacturer should design a plant and its channels depend upon the industry’s need.
Process cycle:
Process cycle: Amount of effluents entering from channel to ETP.
A process cycle without regulation will affect the quality of the plant for sure, so the effluent inflow should properly be estimated.
The amount of effluent that enters into the plant in one cycle should be monitored, else the quality cannot be maintained.
The ETP manufacturer should design in such a way that each process cycle can be accounted for and built scaly in the foreseeable future.
Solid trash:
Before allowing effluents into ETP, we are supposed to ensure a few important screenings.
The solid wastes should be removed by methods like sedimentation.
The grease and debris at the waste coolant oil collection tank.
Allowing solid wastes affects ETP’s quality. So effluent should undergo few processes before entering the plant for purification.
Maintenance:
Maintaining every unit of the plant is necessary.
pH values have to be monitored in the reaction tank.
Ensuring flash mixer condition in the flash mixing tank.
Alum & lime solution has to be prepared as per results as per jar results.
Low maintenance reduces the quality of ETP slowly.
Other Factors:
Few other factors affecting the quality of ETP:
Quality of slit of ETP: The low-quality slit allows bulk effluent or some solid wastes too which in results reduce the plant’s quality.
The turbidity of effluent.
Shock loads- it needs to be able to withstand the bulk loads during high production time.
Shock loads- it needs to be able to withstand the bulk loads during high production time.
The temperature of effluent.
Conclusion:
In order to maintain the quality of the Effluent Treatment Plant, the effluents need special treatment to remove their solid wastes. Everything should be monitored periodically. Most importantly designing the plant based upon the nature and size of the industry will help in quality maintenance. Using eco-friendly chemicals and maintaining every other unit will help in maintaining the quality of ETP for a long time.
